Dr. Solomon Wallace devoted more than five decades to education, youth development, housing, mentoring, and charitable service. As an engineer, veteran, humanitarian, and internationally respected Masonic leader, he spent his life creating opportunities for young people, strengthening families, and building institutions that continue to serve communities today.

His legacy is rooted in faith, responsibility, and service — values that shaped every chapter of his life and continue to inspire the mission of this scholarship program.

Who Is Dr. Solomon Wallace

Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Solomon Wallace developed the values of perseverance, hard work, faith, and community responsibility at an early age. He pursued his education at Shaw University, where he studied engineering, and later continued his studies through the continuing education program at the City College of New York.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and went on to build a distinguished professional career as an engineer with the Mayer Malbin Company on Long Island, New York. Throughout his life, he was known for professionalism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.


Leadership and Community Impact

Dr. Wallace believed that leadership should produce real and lasting change in people’s lives. His work reflected that belief through meaningful contributions to education, family support, youth development, and community building.

His lasting accomplishments include:

  • Prince Hall Day Care Center
    Helping establish quality early childhood education opportunities for working families.

  • Camp Eureka
    Creating leadership and educational experiences for underserved youth through summer enrichment and mentorship.

  • Prince Hall Plaza Senior Housing
    Leading the development of a 97-unit affordable senior housing community that now bears his name.

  • Scholarship Development
    Expanding access to education through scholarships and youth mentoring initiatives.

  • “Saving the African American Male: From Cradle to College”
    Championing mentorship, educational achievement, and personal development for young men through Scottish Rite initiatives.


Prince Hall Masonic Leadership

Dr. Wallace joined Samson Lodge No. 65 in New York in 1964. His leadership quickly became evident, and he was elected Worshipful Master in 1968.

He later served as:

Most Worshipful Grand Master
Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the State of New York
1983–1995

His twelve-year administration remains one of the longest and most influential in the history of the Grand Lodge. During his leadership, he:

  • Modernized Grand Lodge operations

  • Expanded scholarship and educational programs

  • Strengthened youth leadership initiatives

  • Increased community outreach

  • Advanced organizational planning and financial stewardship

  • Encouraged greater civic engagement throughout Prince Hall Freemasonry

In 2006, Dr. Wallace was elected Sovereign Grand Commander of the United Supreme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Prince Hall Affiliation, Northern Jurisdiction. He became the first New Yorker in more than one hundred years to serve in this distinguished office.

His administration emphasized:

The Dr. Solomon Wallace Legacy Scholarship Fund exists to empower future leaders through educational opportunity, community service, leadership development, and financial assistance. Inspired by the life and legacy of Dr. Solomon Wallace, Past Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the State of New York, the Fund invests in students whose character, academic achievement, and commitment to serving others reflect the timeless principles of Faith, Hope, Charity, Integrity, and Brotherhood.

Legacy Statement

Dr. Solomon Wallace believed that education creates opportunity, leadership creates change, and service creates lasting impact. Through this scholarship program, his vision lives on in every student who chooses to learn, to lead, and to serve.

The Dr. Solomon Wallace Legacy Scholarship Program carries forward these principles by investing in students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership potential, integrity, and a commitment to serving others.
